Abstract
The major conclusion of this dissertation is that
the cultural diversity is potential in arousing various problems in intercultural
communication. This case is observable in the communication between
indigenous Minang people and the Javanese which theoretically supports the
developmental model of communication theory and social changes from the
perspective of community development. This model is developed in Majid
Tehranian’s and Mowlana’s Communication and Theories of Social Change: a
Communitarian Perspective in Asian Journal of Communication 2/1 (1991) and
in William B. Gudykust ‘s and Bella Mody’s A Handbook of International and
Intercultural Communication (2002).
