The development of information technology has had a significant impact on library management and service systems, particularly circulation services. One technology widely implemented in modern libraries is Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). This technology enables automated identification and tracking of collections using radio waves without the need for direct contact with a scanner. This study aims to examine the use of the Wiser RFID system in book lending and return services at Andalas University Library.
This study employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection was conducted through direct observation of circulation service activities and documentation related to the use of the RFID system. The results indicate that the implementation of Wiser RFID can improve circulation service efficiency, accelerate the borrowing and return process, and simplify library collection management and monitoring. Furthermore, RFID technology also plays a role in improving collection security and reducing the possibility of errors in transaction recording.
However, its implementation still faces several obstacles, such as the device's high sensitivity level, which allows the device to read more than one RFID tag during the scanning process. This condition has the potential to affect the accuracy of recording circulation service transactions. Therefore, good management of RFID device use and staff accuracy in carrying out the scanning process are required so that library circulation services can run more effectively and optimally.
